Initial Motivation

Ghar-E

What is a ‘home(Ghar)’ really? Is it a four-walled entity with a roof, windows and doors? Or something much more? Perhaps, an idea, a concept. Most art created by artists nowadays just hangs in galleries. And for me, it hinders me from actually connecting with the artist and their environment i.e. their home. And the idea behind the actual work, so to say, the conceptual art. ‘Ghar-i’ as the title goes, human beings have a really profound emotional connection with their place of inhabitation, the people living there and with their possessions and objects. What some people might not notice as much is the importance of memories connected with the aforementioned people, and of course with their objects found in their homes. One of these objects in my home would be a watch/clock(Ghari). A place where now three people live together, has a “Ghari” in every possible room, even in the kitchen. But these people, including myself, function differently just like these out of sync clocks do. These most of the time function as a trigger for the dreadful anxiety, that all the people here share. And from the clock’s perspective he/she/it can only remember our anxiety riddled faces. So, just like that our experiences or memories of the objects we interact with inside our homes can be different, so can be the memories or experiences of the objects.

Bi-mirrors

Disconnect, disconnect everywhere with no nostalgia to look forward to. How our devices have been depriving us of the joy of nostalgia? How far have we strayed from the community into a labyrinth of silicon? A memory of childhood will always be more defined than any HD or 4K video we can shoot today.

The Bi Mirror remembers the past and the future with us all the time, it enlivens the spaces which have been mostly mute, makes them more engaging and intelligible eliminating the ‘dis-’ from the disconnect we have been experiencing.
